Podium for Stacey in first race of the season

The 2011 racing season got off to a good start for Stacey Nesbitt at Round 1 of the RACE Superseries. After a long winter this was the first opportunity to get back on track, as the test weekend two weeks ago was abandoned due to terrible weather. Both Toni and Stacey ventured out onto a cold and windy Friday track day. It was not the time to push hard but by the end of the day both had comparable lap times to the last time they raced this track configuration on a warm sunny day in June 2010. All in all, a satisfactory opening day. Both girls were thoroughly enjoying themselves having a big smile after each session.

Saturday was sunny and warm. For the heat race Team Statoni lined up 1st and 2nd on the grid (the first race of the year is based on registration). A top four finish meant a front row start for the final on Sunday. Stacey finished 3rd and Toni 6th

Sunday brought with it the colder weather again. The CBR Cup race was not scheduled until late afternoon. Under cloudy conditions Eric Green took the lead closely followed by Stacey, Shay Gauthier in third and Toni up to fourth. By the end on the first lap Shay had moved into the lead pulling steadily away with Eric also increasing his lead over Stacey. This would remain the same until the finish. Toni was passed by Karolina Pelc and then came under pressure from newcomer Thomas Casas. They had a good race long battle before Thomas managed to get ahead and open a small gap. A 6th place finish for Toni improving her lap time by a further two seconds.
