R.A.C.E. Rd 2 - CBR Cup final postponed

Practice and qualifying: The rain started Friday night and basically didn't stop all weekend. With full wets fitted, Toni and Stacey ventured onto the track for the first practice. Four laps into the session Stacey had a lowside crash. Picking herself and the bike up, she continued to the end of the practice. With the rain getting heavier, large puddles were on the track for the second session.
Heat race: Grid positions were based on current championship points, so Stacey was in third position and Toni in fifth. A good start saw Eric Green get off the line in first, followed by Stacey, Shay Gauthier and Karoline Plec. Toni was fifth ahead of Thomas Casas. Stacey dropped to third before the end of the lap and a race long battle with Karolina began. On the last lap Karolina took advantage of lapping Toni and was able to pass Stacey into turn two. Stacey stayed on her back wheel and made a drafting pass down the back straight into turn six, holding Karolina off to the line for third. Both enjoyed the race long battle in difficult conditions. Toni finished sixth, clearly unhappy in the wet conditions.
Warmup and final: The rain continued all night and we fully expected the race meeting to be abandoned. The organisers revised the race schedule and worked hard to clear standing water in turn one and Allen's corner. Wind was also added to the equation. Stacey posted the fastest time in the warm up, becoming more comfortable in the wet. In contrast, Toni pulled into the pits after one lap unable to relax in the conditions. The rain continued all day and eventually the races after the CRCA break, including the CBR race, were cancelled. The plan is now to run these finals at the next round.
Thanks to the R.A.C.E. organisers and all the volunteer CRCA corner workers for their support. It is not much fun standing out in the rain all day, but without them there would be no racing. Thanks also to Franklyn Dominguez and Deivi Martinez for their help all weekend. Congratulations to Franklyn on 3rd place in the Pro Superbike race.
