Practice: Having never raced at Mosport before, Stacey took advantage of a Pro 6 Cycle track day on Wednesday prior to the race weekend. Although no times were taken, the track time was valuable. Mosport history includes great motorcycle racers from past years such as Agostini and Hailwood to have graced the asphalt, but this was lost on both girls. Thursday morning saw the first official practice. Stacey ended up 11th fastest and Toni 25th. The heat wave continued into the afternoon with the temperature above 30 deg. Celsius. Stacey improved her lap time by 2 seconds to 2:08:575, being the biggest improver in the session. In fact, she held second place for most of the session, before dropping to 6th in the final few minutes, a fantastic achievement by all accounts. Toni would end the session 27th.
Qualifying: The thunder storms arrived as promised on Friday. It was decided by PMP that the Friday times would be used instead of qualifying if the track remained wet. So the girls sat out the morning practice session in the torrential rain as the forecast for the remainder of the weekend was to be sunny and dry. By lunchtime the track was beginning to dry, no matter how hard a rain dance we did to try to make it rain! So the girls prepared for qualifying. At the last minute, with a few drops of rain, PMP confirmed the Friday times would be used for the gird positions, thus securing Stacey a second row start from 6th place. However, during the now practice-only session; Stacey had a low side at the last turn. Not injured, she picked up the bike and returned to the pits. After a quick check over of the bike, she headed out onto the track again.
Race: The race was eventful to say the least. Stacey got off to a good start but dropped back a few places. Her confidence was shaken a little due to the previous day's crash. She was in 8th place when the race was red flagged after two laps when race leader Ryan McCormick crashed heavily at turn one. A quick trip to the hospital determined 3 fractures to his shoulder, so he was ruled out for the remainder of the weekend. The restart was regrided based on the positions when the race was stopped. So Stacey dropped back to the third row for the restart. She was far from happy with this, but that is racing. She got another good start, but the race was red flagged again after one lap for a near identical accident in turn one involving Kelsey Giacchetta. Kelsey suffered a broken shoulder. Best wishes to her and Ryan for a speedy recovery. So yet another restart. As the race had not completed one lap, Stacey was again in 8th position on the grid. The race was reduced to four laps. At the checkered flag Stacey crossed the line in 12th place. Toni had a steady run to eventually finish 23rd.
